Welcome to the itch.io page of the OHRRPGCE, which stands for Official Hamster Republic Role Playing Game Construction Engine. The OHRRPGCE is a free and open source game making tool kit. It is cross-platform (Windows, Mac, Linux, Android)

The OHRRPGCE aims to be an easy-to-use utility with which you can create your own retro-style 2D RPG game with no programming, or you can create other types of games with the built in Hspeak scripting language.

For source code and documentation, visit https://hamsterrepublic.com/ohrrpgce/

Donations are strictly optional, and will be used to cover hosting costs and testing/development equipment for the project developers.

The OHRRPGCE is created by James Paige (Bob the Hamster) and Ralph Versteegen (TMC) and many other contributors https://rpg.hamsterrepublic.com/ohrrpgce/Contributors

I'm really enjoying exploring OHRRPGCE, but find it odd that the plotscripting is outside of the Custom program, considering it's just editing text. I like the fact you can do so much in a straight DOS-alike environment, and having to leave it to use a code editor beaks the spell somewhat. If you stuck a simple OPL3 tracker in there it'd literally be my dream environment!

The docs page isn't loading for me, after a while it gives me a 503 error and says "service unavailable, the server is temporarily unable to service your request due to maintenance downtime or capacity problems. Please try again later.

Sorry about that. Our Mediawiki instance sometimes gets hammered by bots that scrape it without respecting robots.txt. I try to block them when I can, but unfortunately it is hard.

Damn, that sucks. Is there an offline version anywhere?

Also, unrelated question: the help screen mentions a sample RPG (Vikings of Midgard) but I don't see it in the folders. Is that part of the help screen out of date?

We don't have an offline version, but maybe adding one would be useful. I would have to figure out how to safely scrape a snapshot of the wiki.

Vikings of Midgard isn't in all the downloads. I need to check and see which ones have it. The minimal packages don't have it, and I am not sure if any of the Linux packages currently do. It does have its own itch page also, at https://fenrir-lunaris.itch.io/vikings-of-midgard . I will make sure to link to that next time I update that help page. Thank you for mentioning it!

Maybe in the interim an offline file version of the HOWTO page (edit: the tutorial pages, I didn't realize HOWTO was just an index of links and not the tutorial itself) could be nice? Regardless - thank you! This engine looks sick.

I'm curious, is there a list of games somewhere that have been made with this? I've been really enjoying all the Willy Electrix stuff lately and want to explore more

Sometimes people will tag their games here on itch with #ohrrpgce but if you want a big list of games, try http://www.slimesalad.com/forum/viewforum.php?f=4

Many are unfinished, and many are just tech demos, or joke games, but there are a lot of full games mixed in there too.

Thanks so much!

I've been waiting over two years for a stable update, due to wanting to use some features for a game I'm actively developing like the new "Hide/Unhide" generic options expanding on the old "Jump/Land" mechanics allowing me to do things like thief backstabs and burrowing attacks better.

Having tried making a game TUTORIAL with a Nightly build, I've learned my lesson on overly relying on features of nightly builds.

Your engine is a true inspiration.  I usually use smile game builder/rpg maker mz, and a few others but yours just feels... Right!

I love this engine and use it regularly.

Wow, now here is a blast from the past and looking spiffier than ever!

Thank you! We aim to be spiffy.

If RPGMaker was Windows, this would be Linux.

Pretty good engine with nice small living community in 2023 :)

will you ever release the code?

(+3)

Yes! The OHRRPGCE has been open source since 2005. I'll try to make the link easier to find

the very first game engine i ever used!

Memories! :D

The engine has evolved a lot over the last few years. Some of the games made with it are miles away from what you'd expect to see from an OHRPGCE game, like Digital Soul Data.

HOLY HAND GRENADE! I can't believe this is on here! It's such a cool tool!
